1. Download Cisco VPN Client 4.9.01.0180 for Mac. Fast downloads of the latest free software!
2. The client is available on all university-managed computers in the Software Center (MESA) or in Mason Self Service (Jamf Pro). If you are not using a university-managed computer, you will first need to download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. For Windows, Mac, and Linux devices, download the client from the Related Downloads box on this page.

Installing the VPN Client

1. Download the AnyConnect VPN client for Mac OS X:
2. In your Downloads folder, double-click the file you just downloaded to open it. An icon will appear on the desktop called AnyConnect, and a separate window will open.
3. Double-click on AnyConnect.mpkg to run the installer, then follow the steps to complete the installation.
4. When you see this screen, UN-check everything with the exception of VPN: (VPN option grayed out? Go here.)
   • Starting with macOS 10.13 High Sierra: During the installation, you will be prompted to enable the AnyConnect software extension in the System Preferences -> Security & Privacy pane. The requirement to manually enable the software extension is an operating system requirement.

Starting the VPN Client

NOTE:The VPN will not connect if you are connected to the FBRI wired or wireless network.

1. In your Applications folder, go to the Cisco folder and double-click the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
   
2. Enter vpn.vtc.vt.edu in the Ready toConnect to field, then press the Connect button.
3. Enter your FBRI username and password, then click OK.
4. A banner window will appear. Click Accept to close that window. You are now connected!

Disconnecting the VPN Client

When you are finished using the VPN, remember to disconnect (failing to disconnect can result in being unable to access resources if you are on-site at the Research Institute).

1. Click the AnyConnect client icon located in the menu bar near the top right corner of your screen.

The Gatorlink VPN service provides secure remote access to the University of Florida network and makes it appear as if your computer were physically attached to the campus network. It is based on SSL transport rather than IPsec which was supported by the older client. Anyconnect will also work on networks which use heavy firewalling and/or network address translation. Features include auto-update and auto-policy synchronization which eliminate the need to update the client manually.

Once you install the client, you will automatically be updated when a new client is available. The client is SSL based and supports the full gatorlink VPN tunnel feature set including campus-only tunnels as well as departmental VPNs. It is not a Java based client, and does not require Java. In addition to the Cisco Anyconnect client, the UF Gatorlink VPN service also supports legacy L2TP over IPsec clients which are built into many popular operating systems.

• 5/5/2018: For Ubuntu 18.04, you must install the pangox libraries for the GUI to work. From the command line type 'sudo apt install libpangox-1.0.0' after the client installation is complete.
